XJ Timber Preservative

XJ Timber Preservative is a clear, broad-spectrum timber preservative for cut ends made to protect outdoor timber from fungal decay, borers, and termites. It penetrates deep into the wood, sealing and preserving exposed surfaces caused by cutting, drilling, or machining, ensuring the timber maintains its durability and resistance. Ideal for resealing cut ends of LOSP and blue pine framing, XJ is perfect for window frames, doors, gates, fences, handrails, and outdoor furniture.

Key Features

  • Specialised timber preservative for cut ends: Reseals and protects freshly cut timber surfaces to maintain the original treatment’s effectiveness.

  • Broad-spectrum protection: Contains zinc naphthenate (fungicide) and permethrin (insecticide) to guard against fungal decay, borers, and termites.

  • Clear finish: Maintains timber’s natural appearance while providing long-lasting protection.

  • Easy application: Ready to use, simply brush or spray onto dry, clean timber surfaces, especially cut ends.

  • Recommended by timber producers: Ensures compliance with warranties and prolongs timber life by resealing exposed areas.

FAQ

Why is it important to use a timber preservative for cut ends?

Cutting or drilling timber exposes untreated wood that is vulnerable to moisture, fungi, and insect attack. Using a timber preservative for cut ends seals these exposed areas, maintaining the timber’s durability and warranty protection. Without resealing, the timber’s lifespan and performance can be significantly reduced.

Can XJ Timber Preservative be used on all types of outdoor timber?

XJ is ideal for resealing cut ends of LOSP treated pine, blue pine, and other non-durable timbers like Oregon and Meranti. It is suitable for all above-ground outdoor timber applications where protection from decay and insects is needed. Always apply to dry, clean surfaces for best results.

How often should I reapply XJ Timber Preservative on cut ends?

Reapplication depends on exposure and weather conditions but is generally recommended in high hazard or heavily weathered situations. Check timber regularly and reapply if the cut ends appear dry or unprotected. Following label guidance ensures ongoing protection.

Can you paint over this product with waterbased paint. Nick asked on 12 February 2024

Hey Nick,
XJ Timber Preservative is an oil-based product so an oil-based paint is recommended however, you will need to make sure the solvent has flashed off before applying any paint. It’s also a good idea, as in most cases, to apply paint to a small out of the way section first. For more tailored advice, I would recommend speaking with a paint expert on this one first if you have a large job to do.
