Hey Simon,
The Pestrol Solar Animal Away - Elite uses a PIR Sensor, there is a chance that a car approaching the unit would generate the necessary heat and movement to activate the unit, but it is difficult to say for certain. I doubt a car driving past on the road would give the unit enough time to register and activate.
To err on the side of caution, if placing in an area which may disorientate drivers, I would recommend to switch off the strobe light and leave the unit to uses it's sound repelling functions instead.

The ultrasonic function of the speaker in the Pestrol Solar Animal Away Elite which uses both sonic and ultrasonic frequencies would typically consume less power than the sonic function. Ultrasonic transducers are generally more efficient in converting electrical energy to sound waves.
That being said, the Elite is designed to operate through the night, provided the unit has had sufficient time in the sun to recharge during the day, the unit will run all night, regardless of whether you're using the Ultrasonic, the Sonic or Both.

The Pestrol Solar Animal Away - Elite has a motion detection range of up to aproximately 25 metres, with detection angles vertically 90° degrees and horizontally 145° degrees
The Solar Animal Away Elite works for 8-12 seconds when it detects a pest within its range.

The Pestrol Solar Animal Way Elite shouldn't be placed facing upwards, while it is weather resistant, placing it in that position could lead to water or moisture entering through the front speaker, motion sensor and strobe lights on the device.
As well, using an electronic scarecrow such as the Elite wouldn't be of too much help in this instance. It won't have any effect on bats in flight.

Great product. Works very well on rabbits as well. Will be back for a second unit, as our rabbits are out of control.
I have had a number of bat repellers over the years but, this year, the problem of bat poop has been worse than ever before.
One week ago I installed the Pestrol Solar Animal Away – Elite – AMAZING – not one splat all week!
The reason for this success is probably that the Solar Animal Away – Elite has a longer range than other ultrasonic repellers.
It works brilliantly. The solar charging is excellent and we now have no possums eating our vegetables.
We have another one of your possum deterrents, a cheaper version, with no bright strobe light, and works on rechargeable batteries. This second deterrent works and the possums don’t eat my roses any more, but it is upsetting to check the batteries constantly. I would prefer the Elite version.
So far so good
Bought 1 and it worked well for rabbits so bought a 2nd to increase the range as we are on a 1 acre house block, very happy so far and does not harm the rabbits. It will be interesting to see how they work long term or whether the rabbits will get used to the ultrasound and start to ignore them as a deterrent.
Fantastic product we live in a gated community so I hope it will help with demon and larger animals that roam in the vacant land around us, tends to be loud when the sire. goes off so we only use the strobe lights enough at the moment.
Seems to work. Didn’t have any possum marking in the garden again. so i think it works. The only thing is the backing doesn’t really click in easily if you want to take it off and change the settings and put it back.
