How to Use

Prepare the Surface: Clean the surface thoroughly to remove any dirt, debris, bird droppings, nests, or overhanging branches. Ensure the area is dry before installation to secure strong adhesion.
Measure and Cut: Cut the bird spike strips to fit your desired length using appropriate tools such as tin snips or a hacksaw.
Apply Adhesive: Our specifically designed Avisil Adhesive is what we recommend to ensure your spikes are secured when installing them. 1 tube per 10 metres is recommended. Apply a steady bead of the adhesive along the entire base of each spike strip.
Position the Spikes: Press the bird spikes firmly onto the prepared surface, ensuring the spikes are close to the edge to prevent birds from perching between the spikes and the surface edge.
Secure with Fasteners (Optional): For extra security, especially on wood or metal surfaces, screw or nail the spike strips through the pre-made holes in the base using appropriate screws or nails.
Connect Strips: Link subsequent strips end-to-end with no gaps larger than 2.5 cm to ensure continuous coverage and prevent birds from finding footholds.
Multiple Rows if Needed: On wider ledges or surfaces, install multiple rows of spikes to maximize coverage and prevent birds from nesting behind the first row.
Allow Adhesive to Cure: Let the adhesive cure fully (usually around 12 hours) before exposing the spikes to harsh weather or heavy bird activity.
Regular Inspection: Periodically check the installation to ensure spikes remain securely attached and clean off any debris to maintain effectiveness.

I am interested in purchasing - we are moving to a high rise and want to keep our two cats safe. We are however renting and don’t want to damage the owners balcony railing. Is there a way to remove your adhesive when we move out without damaging the railing? Or do you recommend another product you sell? Leah asked on 11 March 2025

Yes! Our Extra Wide Stainless Steel Bird Spikes can be installed using silicone adhesive, which is strong yet removable. When moving out, the adhesive can be carefully peeled off using a plastic scraper and warm soapy water or a citrus-based adhesive remover without damaging the railing.

Hey Dominic,
We do not recommend using bird spikes such as the Extra Wide Stainless Steel Bird Spikes to deter possums. The spike is very thin, and for an animal like a possum they'd be more likely to injury themselves on the metal than other fence spikes designed for possums.

We recommend Possum Repelling Spikes. These are made from plastic and have blunted edges, which will effectively deter possums without causing any significant harm to the animal.

We have birds (crows, cockatoos and mynas etc) walking on our box gutter above our bedrooms which wakes us up in the morning. We are concerning with piercing the box gutter to fit these bird spikes. Would double sided tape be strong enough to fix the bird spike to the box gutter. Thanks. Robert asked on 13 October 2024

For bird spikes such as our Extra Wide Stainless Steel Bird Spikes, we recommend using a clear silicone based adhesive to attach them to a surface. I don't believe double-sided tape would last very long.

Hey Gayle,
Extra Wide Stainless Steel Bird Spikes will help to deter most birds from landing on the surface that the spikes have been installed on. Bird spikes will be most effective against birds that predominately fly to prevent them from perching. Scrub Turkeys will walk for the most part, but if they are flying and landing to perch on a higher surface, these spikes should deter them from that area.

Bird spikes are light weight and base is easy to bed if fitting to a square or circle object.
I used metal cable ties to fix to an aerial incase I need to remove in the future.

I’ve got solar panels under my TV Arial the birds were leaving poo all over them but thanks to even the cheap bird spikes they don’t leave their mark anymore. The cost and postage was well worth the effort, I only want to clean the panels once or twice a year not monthly. Thanks guys great product great price.
