What the pack contains

  • One 35g Topbait Knock-On Fire Ant Bait syringe
  • Five bait stations for controlled placement and monitoring
  • Hydramethylnon at 10g/kg as the stated active ingredient

The National Fire Ant Eradication Program identifies Topbait Knock-On as a gel treatment for individual fire ant nests. Its product guidance specifies applying 4g to each nest with a syringe or scoop, then replenishing the bait as required.

How to treat an individual nest

1. Confirm the treatment area

Identify the active nest and plan where the bait station will sit. Place the station near the nest or close to active foraging paths, rather than directly on top of the nest. A nearby position gives ants access to the bait while reducing the chance of disturbing the nest structure.

2. Read the current instructions

Before opening the syringe, read the product label and applicable fire ant treatment guidance. Check the approved use, application rate, placement requirements, precautions, storage directions and disposal instructions. Local fire ant reporting or treatment rules may also apply.

3. Apply the measured bait

Use the syringe to apply 4g of Topbait Knock-On bait for the individual nest, unless the current product label specifies otherwise. Apply the bait in or at the station as directed. Do not exceed the labelled amount, and avoid spreading gel over surfaces where children, pets, livestock or non-target animals could reach it.

4. Position the station safely

Set the bait station near the active nest in a location that remains accessible to foraging ants but is protected from accidental disturbance. Do not place a treatment station directly on top of a fire ant nest. Avoid areas where rain, irrigation or runoff could move the bait into drains or waterways.

5. Replenish and monitor

Inspect the station according to the product instructions and replenish the gel when required. The national product guide notes that weekly gel applications may be needed for three or more weeks before a treated nest is killed, and that three to six treatments are sufficient for most nests. These figures are guidance rather than a guarantee, so continue following the label and monitor activity.

Using the five stations

The five included stations are useful when activity extends beyond one point or when several labelled placement points are needed around a treatment area. For a single nest, use only the number and placement pattern supported by the label and current treatment guidance. Do not assume that all five stations must be placed directly around one nest.

Keep stations stable and check them without unnecessarily disturbing the nest. Record where each station is positioned and when it was inspected. This makes it easier to identify whether bait has been consumed and whether further labelled applications are needed.

Safety and responsible use

  • Keep the syringe and bait stations away from children, pets, livestock, food and animal feed.
  • Prevent non-target animals from accessing the bait.
  • Do not allow bait to enter drains, waterways or areas where it may be washed away.
  • Store the product securely when it is not being used.
  • Dispose of unused bait, packaging and stations according to the product label.
  • Use the product only for its labelled fire ant treatment purpose.

Fire ant treatment can be subject to local requirements, including reporting and restrictions on movement of materials. Check the current guidance for your area before treatment, particularly if the suspected nest is on a property within a regulated fire ant zone.

When this pack is suitable

This pack is intended for planned, station-based treatment of individual fire ant nests. It is not a substitute for broad-area treatment, professional treatment or any official eradication response that may be required. If the nest location is uncertain, activity is widespread, or the site presents a risk to people or animals, seek current advice before applying bait.

Used according to the label, the 35g syringe and five stations provide a practical format for measured bait application, protected placement and follow-up monitoring around an individual fire ant nest.
