Mr. Fothergill’s Bee House

A declining bee and beneficial insects population is a serious threat to human food crops. Bees and beneficial insects are responsible for 70 of the 100 top food crops. Mr. Fothergill’s Bee House is a great way to support their growth right from your garden as it provides them a safe shelter.

An eco-friendly bee and insect sanctuary, this is not a hive but a home for solitary bees and beneficial insects. Mr. Fothergill’s Bee House is coated in a layer of non-toxic paint to make it weatherproof and safe for any insects. Made from FSC timber. It comes with a sachet of different flower seeds that cover an area of approximately 2m2 (Calendula, Cornflower, Californian Poppy, Fineflower, Toadflax, Alyssum, Wallflower, Nemophila, Poppy, Marigold African, Chinese Forget-Me-Not, Borage, Evening Primrose, Lavender, Native Violet, Swan River Daisy, and Sage. They can be sown in at any time of the year, Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn.

Usage:

  1. To sow the seeds, prepare your selected area by turning the soil until you get a crumbly surface free from weeds or stones.
  2. Open the sachet and shake the seeds out evenly and lightly over the area.
  3. Gently rake the area over to cover the seeds with soil.
  4. Water well.
  5. Some varieties may take up to 2 years to produce flowers.
  6. Once the plants start producing flowers, bees and other beneficial insects will get attracted to them and come into the area. You will notice a lot of activity in your garden.
  7. Put the bee house up by hooking up a wire into the back loop and attaching it onto a tree branch/trunk or just place it in your garden.
