When do you apply this product, is it in spring? Shane Ritchie asked on 27 April 2025

Hey Shane,
The best time of year to apply Kult Plant Growth Regulator depends on the type of plant you are treating:

Hedging Plants and Ornamentals

Apply Kult in late winter or early spring, just as normal growth resumes after dormancy. If retreatment is needed, it should also be done in late winter or spring following the resumption of growth.

Turfgrass

Apply Kult after the turf has greened up and is actively growing, which typically occurs in spring. This timing is ideal for suppressing winter grass (Poa annua) and regulating turf growth.

Tree Crops (Mango, Stone Fruit, Apple, etc.)

Application should begin when trees are nearing their optimum size and are close to filling their allocated space, which is often in late winter or early spring as growth resumes. Avoid use on stressed or unhealthy trees.

General Guidance for Plant Growth Regulators

For most plants, PGRs like Kult are most effective when applied early in the growing season, as new growth begins, to prevent excessive elongation and manage plant size

Hi can this be used on lawns? If it can what are the typical dilution rates? Adam Humphrey asked on 2 December 2024

Hey Adam,
Yes, Kult Plant Growth Regulator can be used on lawns to suppress growth and manage specific weeds like winter grass (Poa annua). The typical dilution rates vary based on the turfgrass species and desired outcome. For instance, when targeting winter grass suppression in certain turf varieties, the application rate is 1–2 liters per hectare, depending on the turf type and growth conditions. It's essential to consult the product's label for precise dilution rates and application guidelines tailored to your specific lawn type. Always adhere to the manufacturer's instructions to ensure safe and effective use.

Will this Product Kult Plant Growth Regulator be suitable on Pittosporum Hedge - Silver Sheen Fiona asked on 26 November 2024

Hey Fiona,
Kult Plant Growth Regulator contains paclobutrazol, which is effective in controlling growth in various hedging plants. While the product label lists specific species, it does not explicitly mention Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Silver Sheen'. Therefore, it's advisable to conduct a small test application on your hedge to observe any effects before proceeding with full-scale treatment. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and consider consulting with a horticultural professional for tailored advice.

Is Kult growth regulator suitable for containing height/ root growth of a Jacaranda tree. We have just planted a 2 metre single stem variety and wish to ensure that it does not become invasive; has this product been trialled on this non native species?Thankyou. Michelle Campbell asked on 13 August 2024

Hey Michelle,
SureFire Kult Plant Growth Regulator is primarily designed to manage and control the growth of various plants, including fruit trees like mango, stone fruit, and apples, as well as certain turf varieties and hedging plants. The active ingredient in SureFire Kult is Paclobutrazol, which works by inhibiting gibberellin biosynthesis, thereby reducing vegetative growth and promoting a more compact growth habit.

Regarding its use on a Jacaranda tree, while the product is effective in reducing vegetative growth in several plant species, there is no specific evidence or trial data indicating that SureFire Kult has been tested or is recommended for use on Jacaranda trees, which are non-native species. Given the general function of Paclobutrazol in reducing shoot elongation and controlling tree height, it may help in managing the growth of your Jacaranda. However, because Jacarandas are unique in their growth and root development, there could be potential risks, such as stunted growth or root system impacts that have not been fully studied in this specific context.

If your primary concern is preventing the Jacaranda from becoming invasive or growing too large, it's advisable to consult with a local arborist or horticulturist who has experience with non-native species. They can provide tailored advice based on the specific growth patterns of Jacarandas and how they might respond to growth regulators like SureFire Kult.

For the safest approach, ensure that any application of this product is done with caution and according to the instructions, considering that its effects on Jacarandas have not been explicitly documented.
